Zoja Muhič se v diplomskem delu posveča raziskovanju in oblikovanju oblačil iz odpadnih umetnih materialov ter ozaveščanju o problematiki proizvajanja umetnih materialov v tekstilni industriji, ki niso biorazgradljivi in posledično prekomerno onesnažujejo naš planet.
In her thesis, Zoja Muhič focuses on researching clothing design made from waste synthetic materials and raising awareness about the issue of non-biodegradable synthetic materials in the textile industry, which excessively pollute our planet.
Koncept t.i. »trashion«-a, smeri mode, ki med drugim tudi kritizira onesnaževanje okolja s prekomernim številom oblačil, je povezala z lastnim navdušenjem nad preobrazbo odpadnega, odvrženega ali starega v nov, estetsko privlačen produkt. Iz različne odpadne plastike je oblikovala trajnostno kolekcijo vrhnjih oblačil, ki ščitijo pred dežjem.
She connected the concept of so-called “trashion”, a fashion trend that, among other things, criticises the pollution of the environment with excessive production of clothes, with her enthusiasm for transforming waste, discarded or old items into new, aesthetically appealing products. She designed a sustainable collection of waterproof outerwear from plastic waste.
Avtorica se je v svojem raziskovanju najprej podala v zbiranje odpadnih umetnih materialov po različnih lokacijah v Sloveniji in ozaveščanje širše publike o omenjeni problematiki preko spletne kampanje “plastika=tekstil=oblačilo” v sklopu Evropskega tedna zmanjševanja odpadkov 2022 (plastika-tekstil-oblacilo.eu/) ter na družbenem omrežju Instagram (@plastika_tekstil_oblacilo). Preko slednjega je Zoja sproti dokumentirala vse faze nastajanja kolekcije. Kampanja je obsegala šest parov fotografij, kjer so oblačila na človeku nadomeščena s plastičnimi odpadki.
The author initially embarked on collecting waste synthetic materials at various locations in Slovenia and raising awareness about this issue with the online campaign “plastic=textile=clothing” as part of the European Week for Waste Reduction in 2022 (https://plastika-tekstil-oblacilo.eu/). She also documented the collections execution in real-time through the social network Instagram (@plastika_tekstil_oblacilo). The campaign featured six pairs of photos where clothes on humans were replaced by plastic waste.
Naključno zbrani materiali so bili v prvi fazi sortirani glede na barvo in vrsto umetnega odpadka (vrečke, mehurčkasta folija, mrežice za sadje in zelenjavo, nakupovalne torbe in plastične folije različnih trdot in debelin idr.) Sledila je faza preoblikovanja odpadkov v nove materiale, ki so bili izdelani z uporabo najrazličnejših tehnik (topljenje, ročno in lasersko rezanje, lepljenje, šivanje, tkanje, plastenje, gubanje, varjenje in polnjenje).
In the first phase, collected materials were sorted based on the colour and type of artificial waste (bags, bubble wrap, fruit and vegetable mesh bags, shopping bags, cling films of various hardness and thickness, etc.) The next phase involved transforming the waste into new materials using various techniques (melting, cutting and laser cutting, glueing, sewing, weaving, layering, folding, welding and filling).
Novonastali materiali izhajajo iz tekstur treh osnovnih oblik: srca, kroga in abstraktne rože, katere so avtorici omogočile pestrost kolekcije in hkrati značilno identiteto posameznega oblačila. Inspiracijo za oblikovanje kolekcije je črpala v družinskih fotografijah iz katerih je ustvarila 10 izhodiščnih kolažev za vsako od silhuet kolekcije.
The newly created materials were derived from textures of three basic shapes: heart, circle and abstract flower, enabling diversity in the collection and giving each garment a distinctive identity. She drew inspiration for the design of the collection from family photos, from which she created ten starting collages for each silhouette.
Končni rezultat, trajnostna kolekcija oblačil Zojatar, je skrbno načrtovana in oblikovana iz odpadnih umetnih materialov. S specifično estetiko in nosljivostjo spreminja pogled na zavržen material ter dojemanje odpadkov, kot nekaj neuporabnega in brez vrednosti. Namen kolekcije je tudi zadovoljstvo in toplina, ki opazovalca preplavi ob pogledu na končne produkte, ki nakazujejo upanje na bolj svetlo prihodnost.
The result is the sustainable clothing collection Zojatar, carefully planned and designed from waste synthetic materials. Its aesthetics and wearability change the perception of discarded materials and the understanding that waste is useless and without value. The purpose of the collection is also the satisfaction and warmth that overwhelms the observer when looking at the finished products, which suggests hope for a brighter future.
